“Hiking is a bit like life:

The journey only requires you to put one foot in front of the other…again and again and again. And if you allow yourself the opportunity to be present throughout the entirety of the trek, you will witness beauty every step of the way, not just at the summit”.

I am grateful to be living near Peak District and have access to all the beautiful landscapes. Walking during winter days you can notice the frozen nature, staying still and quite. After few weeks everything starts to revive and the white blanket turns into colourful landscape.

Lose Hill

‘Hike and Travel’ have been hiking Mam Tor area but this time we decided to walk on a different route. It’s starts from Edale car park which is fairly big with multiple car park spaces and pay and display (coins only, £6 for 6h).

When we created the route on Footpathmap website we have decided to ascend and do the hard part of the route first thing in the morning. The terrain is not very difficult but it can be muddy and boggy when it’s raining.

After first ascend we reached to Back Tor where we had our first stop for tea and a lovely piece of brownie. I have never seen Mam Tor and the area so peaceful and quite, usually it is very noisy and packed with people.

It is so refreshing and relaxing to go outside, take a deep breath of fresh air and enjoy the views.

Back Tor

After our well deserved cuppa we continued our journey to Lose Hill on a frozen ground and crisp air.

Back Tor

The advantage of starting the walk early in the morning it that you can see the sunrise and hear the birds singing, letting us know the spring is near. The views from Back Tor early in the morning are spectacular so it’s worth waking up at 6am or earlier in the summer.

Even if you are walking by yourself, you are never alone. Once we’ve descended to Hope, we have passed by a farm where few chickens were watching us trying to avoid the mud.

Also a nice pony came near the fence to say hello, seeking for attention.

Strolling through Hope, after we passed by Twitchill Farm Holiday Cottages we had to climb a very steep hill. After we’ve done half of the climb, we decided to stop for food and recharge our batteries. There is a nice spot near the stoned fence with a lovely view towards Hope and it also acts as a windshield.

After one sandwich, a cup of tea and few minutes of ascending the hill, we have reached to Win Hill.

The views of Ladybower Reservoir and surroundings are beautiful. I was happy and grateful to be able to walk there and enjoy the landscape.

Win Hill

No matter what the weather outside, if it’s raining or if it’s cold, it definitely worth walking outside for both your mind and body. Also spending time outside you can enjoy and be aware of each season changes.

It has been the perfect route for a hike on Sunday, with a combination of rocky, ground and tarmac path we have finished 12 miles with the sun in front of us and a smile on our faces.
