Milan and Florence City breaks

If you like Italian food and want to enjoy a short city break, Milan and Florence are a great choice.

We went for a long weekend city break in Milan via Bergamo. We stayed at Hotel Berna the hotel was clean and had a good breakfast and it’s located close to train station and main tourist attractions.

When we arrived in Milan was raining and it was late in the afternoon so we went across the street to a nice restaurant for dinner. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was homely and cosy. We had the best sea food dish we ever had and a great local wine.

Early in the morning the next day we took the train to Florence. I had booked the ticket online for a high speed train. The journey to Florence from Milan took around three hours which was great considering the distance.

Unfortunately, I didn’t book anything online and we couldn’t enter in any of the museums due to long queues but we walked around the city centre and visited Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Ponte Vecchio. We walked through the market full with leather bags and I felt like a child in a sweets store.

We enjoyed the city vibe, a great pizza and gelato on a terrace near the Cathedral and got back to Milan in the afternoon.

We were quite tired but it was worth it and I would definitely go back and visit Uffizi museum and other attractions.

Milan has a lot to offer fashion shows, great food, great wine, numerous tourist attractions.

We visited Duomo di Milan (Milan Cathedral) one of the world’s largest Gothic cathedral which took nearly six centuries to complete: construction began in 1386, and the final details were completed in 1965.

The queue was long It took around two hours to go in but it was worth to see this impressive cathedral.

If you want to visit Milan I would say allow at least two days as we didn’t have time to see everything.
