Snowdon via Crib Goch

Great experience hiking and ‘flying‘ in North Wales

Hiking is helping me embrace and overcome my fear of height and after a lot of thinking, training and research I have agreed to do Snowdon via Crib Goch route.

I have seen so many videos with people climbing Crib Goch and even though it looks very scary it is not impossible.

The route to Snowdon via Crib Goch starts from Pen-Y-Pass car park. The car park has limited car park spaces and with booking only but there are few other places to park near Pen Y Gwryd.

Crib Goch

After over 1 miles of warm up, we have started to climb the famous Crib Goch.

Crib Goch is described as a "knife-edged" arête in the Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd, Wales. The name means "red ridge" in the Welsh language. The highest point on the arête is 923 metres above sea level. The route is dangerous and difficult so be prepared. This route should not be attempted by novice walkers.

The climb is very steep and the path is rocky all the way but the views are spectacular.

The rocks are very sharp and proper hiking boots are mandatory. I also had some light gloves which helped as I was using my hands all day time.

After we climbed the first part of the route, the rest of the path was on the top of the ridge with magnificent views on each side. There are few areas where we have walked on a side of the ridge or crawling but this things make this route so interesting.

I would say it is not that scary if you don't overthink it and always have 3 points of contact.

There are few areas where you can’t see the path properly but you can download the GPX file above and follow the route.

Once we reached Pyg Track, the path was so busy I was actually happy I did Crib Goch instead. Crib Goch route is not that busy but it is definitely challenging and demanding. I would recommend having proper equipment and just taking the time to breath and look where to step or put your hands is very important.

After we had our lunch at the top, taking in the spectacular views we head back to the car park via Pyg Track than Miner's Track. It was second time when we went to Snowdon but we haven’t actually touch the trig as the queue was very long. Next time!

The hike was about 7 hours long with half an hours lunch and pit stops. The climb and walk on Crib Goch took longer than I thought but better to be safe than sorry.

After a great experience on Crib Goch I was boozing and ready-ish for the next exciting trip to Zip Wold, Velocity 2.

Velocity 2 is the fastest zip line in the world and I wanted to do it for a long time but I never had the courage. Hiking really helps me with overcoming my fear of heights and after I did the Crib Goch I was very excited to do the craziest thing I have ever done in my life.

Zip world

The zip line is located at Penrhyn Quarry and it is just 20 minutes away from Dolgam campsite where we camped.

The entire experience at the Zip World was amazing. I was a little bit scared but as soon as the break was released, the speed and the adrenaline kicked in and for about 1 minutes, at over 100mph I was ‘flying‘ above the quarry and the lake. The most thrilling, tense and exciting experience.
